Deliverable 01 · Store-health audit

A brand golfers want to wear, on a generic selling system.

We tore down cloudy-golf.com the way we'd tear down our own store — UX, mobile, speed, merchandising, retention and search. The product is genuinely strong. The machine that's supposed to sell it is stock Shopify. Every claim below is tagged: verified live or to confirm.

The report card

Ten categories, graded on evidence

Brand and product carry the store. Everything downstream of the product — merchandising, retention, search — is where the grades slip.

A-

Brand & Product

Real, differentiated, Québec heritage. 460 GSM oversized hoodies, strong colorways (Argile / Boréal / Ciel). This is the asset.

B-

Visual Design & UX

Clean, but a fairly generic Shopify theme. Hierarchy and merchandising are underused — nothing steers the eye or the cart.

C

PDP & Merchandising

No bundles or kits, no per-item value framing, thin fit guidance, weak urgency and trust cues on the product page.

B-

Mobile

Responsive and usable, but the same generic template limits — no sticky add-to-cart, no mobile-first merchandising.

C+

Speed & Technical

Critical: some product images ship as .heic (verified in products.json) — fails to render in many desktop browsers = blank/broken images.

C+

Collection & Navigation

Products have empty product_type / tags in products.json → weak filtering, thin taxonomy, no real merch logic.

C

Cart & Checkout

No progress-to-free-shipping, no cart upsell, no abandonment safety net. The $75 free-ship threshold isn't being used to lift AOV.

D

Retention / Email

Only a newsletter signup. No detectable welcome, abandonment or post-purchase flows — repeat revenue is left on the table.

D+

Search & Discovery (SEO)

Owns its brand name; invisible on non-brand category terms (verified live). Name collision with PUMA's own "Cloudy" apparel line.

C

Trust & Social Proof

39 reviews, but first-party only — no Google or Trustpilot presence. Competitor Cloud 18 has Trustpilot; Cloudy does not.

Page by page

Where the store leaks — screen by screen

Four core templates plus search. Each observation is tagged to its source: products.json, the live page, or the live SERP.

B-

Home

cloudy-golf.com/en
  • Generic hero. A single lifestyle image and "Join the Wave" — no product entry point, no bestseller, no reason to scroll. The homepage doesn't merchandise. directional
  • No featured collection or kit. The strongest SKUs (460 GSM hoodie, Héritage Q-Zip) aren't surfaced above the fold. verified live
  • Free shipping is buried. The $75 CAD threshold — a proven AOV lever — isn't used as a persistent banner or progress cue. verified live
Fix → Merchandised hero with a bestseller rail, a "Build Your Kit" entry, and a persistent free-ship bar. See the rebuilt home.
C+

Collection

/collections/all
  • Empty taxonomy. products.json shows blank product_type and tags on items → no real filtering (hoodies vs polos vs headwear) and nothing for SEO to index. verified — products.json
  • No merch logic. Sold-out and limited SKUs sit inline with hero products; no "new," "bestseller," or sort-by-intent. verified live
  • Thin category copy. No collection-level content to rank for "golf hoodie canada" or "vêtement de golf québec." verified — live SERP
Fix → Real product types + tags, filterable collection, and indexable category copy. Preview the redesigned collection.
C

Product (PDP)

/products/…
  • No bundle / kit merchandising. Every product sells solo — no "complete the look," no per-item value, no reason to add a second piece. Biggest AOV miss on the site. verified live
  • Broken-render risk. Club Polo ships IMG-5971.heic and the Scorebook FullSizeRender…heic.heic fails in many desktop browsers = blank product image. verified — products.json
  • Thin fit confidence. No size guidance, no photo reviews, no "fits oversized" note on a 460 GSM oversized hoodie. verified live
  • Weak trust & urgency. First-party star count only; no benefit icons, no stock/urgency cues. verified live
Fix → Kit builder, benefit icons, size + fit confidence and photo reviews. Walk the rebuilt PDP.
C

Cart & Checkout

/cart
  • No progress-to-free-shipping. A $75 CAD threshold exists but the cart never says "you're $12 away" — the single easiest AOV win, unused. verified live
  • No cart upsell. No socks/hat cross-sell at the moment of highest intent. verified live
  • No abandonment safety net. No cart/checkout recovery email (see Retention). Abandoned carts simply leave. verified live
Fix → Free-ship progress bar, smart upsell zone and abandonment tie-in. See the redesigned cart.
D+

SEO & Search

verified on the live SERP
  • Owns its brand. Site, IG @cloudy.golf, YouTube and FB all rank for "Cloudy Golf." verified live
  • Invisible on category terms. Absent for "golf hoodie canada," "vêtement de golf québec," "streetwear golf brand canada," "quarter zip golf." Retailers own those results. verified — live SERP
  • Name collision. PUMA markets its own "Cloudy" apparel line; a fuzzy searcher can land on a competitor. verified live
Fix → Non-brand category content, real taxonomy, and a brand-defense plan. See the Google Ads & search plan.
Live search & ads — checked, not assumed

You own your name. You're renting everything else.

"You own your name.
You're renting everything else."

verified

Cloudy ranks for its own name. The site, IG @cloudy.golf, YouTube and Facebook all appear for brand searches. The brand SERP is healthy.

verified

The "Cloudy / Cloud" golf namespace is contested. PUMA markets its own "Cloudy" apparel line (the biggest threat) — plus Cloud 18 Golf, Cloud & Wind, Cloud Golf and Cloudy Coast. A fuzzy searcher can land on a competitor.

verified

Essentially zero non-brand organic presence. For "golf hoodie canada," "vêtement de golf québec," "streetwear golf brand canada" and "quarter zip golf," Cloudy does not appear — retailers (Just Golf Stuff, Golf Town) and streetwear-golf brands own those results.

verified

Meta Ad Library shows 0 active ads for the brand (checked live). There's no Meta paid footprint running today.

to confirm

Google Ads / Shopping could not be confirmed either way. So we say "no advertising footprint we could detect" — not "they run none." We won't assert what we couldn't verify.

Our accuracy stance. A Semrush "0 paid keywords" reading is a floor, not proof. We verified findings on the live SERP and the Meta Ad Library. Anything we couldn't confirm is flagged, not asserted. Review counts and directional estimates are labelled as such.

Fixes ranked by revenue impact

Ordered by the money each is likely to move — not by what's easiest. Every fix links to the deliverable where we've already built the solution. Dollar/percent notes are directional estimates.

1

Add PDP bundle / kit merchandising + per-item value

Every product sells solo today. Kits ("hoodie + Q-zip + cap"), "complete the look," and per-item value framing are the single biggest lever on average order value.

Evidence: live PDP — no bundle, cross-sell or per-item value present. · Built in store/product.html
High AOV+12–20% AOV (est.)
2

Fix the .heic product images

Club Polo (IMG-5971.heic) and the Scorebook (FullSizeRender…heic) ship as HEIC, which many desktop browsers can't render — a blank image on a product page kills the sale and the trust.

Evidence: products.json image filenames. · Fix pattern shown in store/product.html
Highconversion + trust
3

Build the 4 core Klaviyo flows

Welcome, cart abandonment, checkout abandonment and browse abandonment. No flows are detectable today — this is recovered revenue that already exists in the funnel.

Evidence: only a newsletter signup detected on-site; no welcome/abandonment emails. · Built in flows.html
Highrecovered revenue
4

PDP trust + fit confidence

Photo reviews, size guidance and benefit icons on a 460 GSM oversized hoodie remove the biggest apparel purchase anxiety: "will it fit / is it worth $120?"

Evidence: live PDP — first-party star count only, no size guide or photo reviews. · Built in store/product.html
Highconversion
5

Non-brand SEO: category content + real taxonomy

Populate product_type / tags, write collection-level content and sharpen product titles so Cloudy can rank on "golf hoodie canada" and "vêtement de golf québec."

Evidence: empty product_type/tags in products.json; absent on live SERP for category terms. · Plan in ads.html
Mediumcompounding organic
6

Defend the brand name vs PUMA "Cloudy"

Product/organization schema, branded content and a review moat so the brand SERP stays yours as PUMA's "Cloudy" line competes for the same fuzzy searches.

Evidence: live SERP — PUMA "Cloudy" apparel + Cloud 18 / Cloud & Wind in the namespace. · Plan in ads.html
Mediumbrand defense
7

Cart: free-ship progress + upsell + abandonment tie-in

"You're $12 from free shipping" plus a socks/hat upsell at peak intent, wired to the abandonment flow. The $75 CAD threshold finally does work.

Evidence: live cart — no progress bar, no upsell, no recovery. Free-ship $75 CAD confirmed on /en. · Built in store/cart.html
Medium+AOV, recovery
8

Launch Google Ads Shopping on hero SKUs

Shopping on the hoodie and Q-zip captures high-intent demand today while SEO compounds. We couldn't detect a paid footprint, so this is likely greenfield.

Evidence: Meta Ad Library 0 active ads; Google paid could-not-verify (flagged). · Plan in ads.html
Mediumnew demand
9

Get third-party reviews (Google / Trustpilot)

39 first-party JudgeMe reviews carry the PDP, but there's no off-site proof. Competitor Cloud 18 has Trustpilot; Cloudy has none — an easy trust gap to close.

Evidence: on-site JudgeMe only; no Google/Trustpilot presence found. · Trust build in flows.html
Low–Medtrust
10

Image / speed optimization

Beyond the HEIC fix, convert to WebP/AVIF, right-size and lazy-load. The heavy stock theme is slower than it needs to be, especially on mobile.

Evidence: heavy Shopify theme + full-res HEIC/JPEG assets. · Patterns across store/
